'To My Youth' Writing & Art Contest

The 'To My Youth' writing and art contest was open to the men of Menard Correctional Center, in Illinois. These men were chosen to participate in an awareness and fundraising campaign, supported by the Menard Restorative Justice Initiative (an inmate lead rehabilitation program), due to their close connection with the youth we serve.

To participate in the writing and art contest, each participant was asked to submit a written essay, poem, or art piece, in line with the theme, ‘To My Youth,’ that speaks to their younger self, the youth in their life, and/or the youth in their home communities.

We believe the men of Menard are excellent candidates for this project as many of them have shared similar experiences as the vulnerable youth we work with and hope that their submissions will offer honest and relatable insights to the youth in our communities.
